Greetings CommonZenZ Fan:
Thank you all for attending! The benefit was a great success, we brought in $1624.77 for Camp Amigo!
I want to ask a moment of your time to read my personal invitation and letter
for the
CommonZenZ Benefit Concert for the
Children's Burn Camp of North Florida
Why is it so important to me.
Here's my testimony:
I AM A BURN SURVIVOR! In 1985, while on spring break from FSU, I was the
passenger in a single automobile accident near my home town of Englewood, FL.
As I was getting away from the car it exploded into flames over 60 feet high,
lighting the night sky - I was caught in an inferno. I'll spare the gory
details but in short, I sustained 80% 2nd & 3rd degree burns.
Paramedics were on the scene within minutes, saving my life!
Fast forward: 2006 I was made aware of The Children's Burn Camp of North Florida
by two friends and volunteers at Camp Amigo,
Sarah Guillot Register and Fire Fighter Michelle Barnett. Sarah and
Michelle frequented my band's shows. They urged me to become a counselor
at Camp Amigo. I was reluctant at first to commit because of my fear of how the
kids would react to me and me to them. Within the first hours of arriving at Camp
Amigo I was totally self aware that this was MY CALLING! The 50 kids who attend
are amazing people, all with unique talents & personalities. Camp Amigo
nurtures the growth of these individuals. The Volunteers, led by
Tallahassee Fire Fighter, Rusty Roberts, are truly a caring, knowledgeable,
highly trained group of life savers (I call them Guardian Angels), they are
Fire Fighters, EMT/Paramedics, Burn Unit nurses, nursing students and burn
survivors like myself from all over the state of Florida who spend a weeks vacation
time and pay to attend Camp Amigo. Talk about dedication!
Every year, I leave camp after a week with the kids and other volunteers with a
strong feeling of accomplishment and purpose.
